Top tips for outdoor entertaining

Hot tubs, gazebos, lighting and accessories are all great ways to jazz up your garden, making it the perfect space for some outdoor entertaining.

We may be approaching the end of summer, but it’s not too late to make the most of your outside space and get your family or friends around for a garden party or BBQ.  When it comes to throwing a great party, location is key, so to really make your get-together stand out from the crowd, follow our top tips to create the ultimate party garden.

Pool party

Pool parties are the ultimate in outdoor get-togethers, but if you’re not lucky enough to have a swimming pool in your back garden (and let’s face it, how many of us are?), why not impress your guests with a hot tub instead? Hot tubs are a great way to encourage guests to relax and have fun, and can help keep people warm if the temperature starts to dip. You could even opt for a tub with additional entertainment features such as Bluetooth connectivity, underwater lighting and audio speakers. If you don’t fancy the commitment or expense of a permanent hot tub, you could consider hiring one for a short-term solution that won’t break the bank.

Create The Ultimate Party Garden

Entertainment space

Parties are all about entertainment, so think carefully about the layout of your garden. It can help to set your garden up into different ‘zones’ – for example, a seating area and BBQ for dining, perhaps some games set out on the lawn, or a cosy corner nook with blankets and comfy cushions for when people want a break from the main action. And of course all parties need music, so set up some speakers and use your patio or decking as a makeshift dance floor.

For the ultimate party garden it’s important to pay attention to the finishing touches. Lighting is key, especially as the nights start to draw in, so furnish your garden with twinkling fairy lights and coloured solar lanterns to help add atmosphere and encourage your guests to continue the party after dark. You can also inject a sense of fun to your surroundings with accessories such as colourful plant pots, bold-patterned soft furnishings, and eye-catching bunting.

Keep warm

Even in the height of summer, the temperatures can fall pretty quickly once the sun goes down, so be sure to keep your guests comfortable by considering different heating options in your garden. Fire pits and chimineas look great and provide atmosphere as well as warmth. Alternatively, you might want to invest in a gas-powered patio heater, particularly if you plan on entertaining on a regular basis.Providing a basket full of blankets and throws will also help to keep your guests warm and cosy long into the night.

Plan for the weather

We all know that, when it comes to throwing outdoor parties, the good old British weather doesn’t always like to cooperate. To prevent the weather from putting a dampener on your party, considering setting up different shelter options to protect your guests from the elements. A gazebo is a perfect (and relatively easy) solution or, if your budget and space allows, a summer house or conservatory that opens up to the garden would work really well.

Whatever your party style, be it decadent pool party, casual get-together or sophisticated dinner party, paying some love and attention to your garden will help you create the perfect outdoor space for entertaining guests.
